First program Granada y más: The past we went

What is it?

The first thematic program is focused on the historical-cultural heritage of Granada. This tour program consists of eight itineraries based on the most essential historical and cultural heritage of Granada. For this, we have selected routes focus on the most emblematic places of the city.

We will start with “El agua del Albaicin (al-Tunna)”, a tour that about the millenary “Barrio del Albaicín” through its main “Aljibes” (medieval architectural structures that served to collect, conserve and channel rainwater throughout the city). Some of them are still active despite being more than six centuries old.

“La Granada Judía” tour (Garnata al-Yahud) is a journey through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Granada, today known as “El Realejo”. This neighborhood, founded by a Sephardic community, left a strong cultural heritage that survives even in its traditions.

“Alhambra de fabula” is a night tour around the fortress and forests of the Alhambra. A walk on its history, hermetic art, legends and myths, especially the rediscovery of the monument by the romantic of the nineteenth century.

The Residencias Señoriales I tour, is the first part (introductory) to the history about typical Granada housing: the carmenes. On this occasion, we will discuss the urban development of “Bajo Albaicín” in an itinerary through the several houses.

The maquis of Granada, a tour on the history of several brothers who after the Spanish Civil War decided to continue their urban resistance in Granada as the stage. Assassins for one side and heroes for the other side. A very unique story.

The Granada woman tour is an itinerary about the main stages of Granada that evoke the traces of some of the most influential and interesting personalities in the History of Granada and that, however, do not have the visibility they deserve.

The Arab Granada (al-Garnata) is an itinerary through the main monuments, places and scenarios of Arabic art in Granada. It is a complementary tour to the route of Islam in Granada to clarify the differences between what Arab art is and what Muslim art is.

“Granada Inexplicable” tour is a window to the darkest grenade. During the night walk we will visit the Albaicín, Realejo and Historic Center of Granada through the darkest stories and paranormal phenomena from all the optics from which the events are explained.

Second program Granada y más: Granada medieval history

What is it?

This second program of eight tours focuses on the medieval history of the city. For this, thematic and emblematic places have been chosen that we consider key to understand the most important landmarks in the History of Granada.

The walk through the Andalusian prisons is a tour about the history of Mauror’s Hill, through what is known as Ahabul Haql, which came to house thousands of captives, extending from Torres Bermejas to the current Carmen de los Mártires.

Islam in Granada is an tour for the main monuments, places and stages of Islamic art in Granada. It is a complementary tour to the route on Arab art in Granada to clarify the differences between what Arab art is and what Muslim art is.

Albaicín Clandestino is a tour through the main areas of the Albaicin neighborhood. We will wander through silent streets in the darkness of the night, through real stories worthy of a film script.

The “Alhamrbas perdidas” tour show some of the most beautiful medieval palaces in Granada and which, however, have not reached our days. A peri-urban itinerary in which nature and past coexist in harmony.

The Granada Gitana tour (la meligrana) is a walk in the Sacromonte. We will walk through the history of the gypsy community, the flamenco and the evolution of the neighborhood from its medieval settlement to the present day.

The Christian Art tour is an itinerary through the main monuments and most essential works of Christian religious art that are preserved in Granada. Starting at the Palace of Carlos V and ending at the Basilica of San Juan de Dios.

Las Defensas de Granada is a complementary tour to the route about the Andalusian prisons. We will walk through the still visible remains of the medieval wall that surrounded the city. In their walls, despite the weather, they still have medieval graffiti that will tell us about their history.

Third programe Granada y más: Granatae, in memoriam.

What is it?

This third program of eight itineraries is designed to remember important milestones in the History of Granada from different times. For this reason, we have also chosen argumentative lines that would allow us to integrate monuments of great historical value in Granada and to be located outside the tourist circuit.

The Gran Vía or the Vía del Azúcar tour is a walk along Gran Vía Street, a symbol of the latest modernization of the city of Granada. In his work, houses, streets and historical monuments were demolished in favor of adapting the medieval city of Granada to the new times.

The Cartuja la Vieja tour is a walk through the current Monte de la Cartuja, where the University of Granada is located. In the mountain and the surrounding areas have Roman sites of important heritage value in addition to one of the artistic jewels, the Monastery of the Cartuja.

The books of discord is a tour on the events that took place at the end of the 16th century before the expulsion of the Moors. A story about the discovery of those known as Plum books, and that led to the construction of the current Sacromonte Abbey.

The title of the tour “Qué bien contigo a solas” paraphrases the verses dedicated by Antonio Machado to the death of the poet Federico García Lorca. This itinerary covers the last days of Lorca in your city, specifically, the last walk you took through its beloved streets.

The Panera de Juan Ciudad is a tour on the figure of the Saint Juan de Dios. Juan de Dios is recognized internationally and in just eighteen years who lived in Granada revolutionized the treatment of the sick in the city and throughout the world.

The Assault on the Great Mosque of Granada is a walk about some monuments that are outside the tourist circuit. For this, we will narrate the feat of a Christian command that entered the city of Granada before being taken by the Catholic Monarchs.

Granatae, in memorian is a tour where photography is the main protagonist. During the walk, and through the visual media, we will enjoy observing how Granada has changed but also how some places seem intact over time.

Escape to Santa Fe and Atarfe is the route that ends the three programs. To do this, we will walk through the place where the capitulations were signed and approval for trips to the New World began, which is why Santa Fe treasured valuable pre-Columbian pieces over time.

– Grado de dificultad del paseo: medio bajo para menores de 70 años. Para mayores de 70 años, el grado de dificultad es medio alto, debido a las cuestas y los escalones. Es necesario estar acostumbrado a caminar con cierta normalidad.

– Presentarse en el punto de encuentro con una antelación mínima de 10 minutos.

– Se recomienda llevar calzado cómodo y agua en época de calor.

– Personas con problemas de movilidad, accesibilidad media, para silla de ruedas, no es accesible. Para bebés recomendamos a los papás que los lleven en las mochilas porta-bebés.
